In total this list of gaming variants are instructions for games and puzzles in
which alphabetic playing cards with letters on a chess board can be considered
as developing toys for out-of-class studies with children at schools, if
rules of any game are elementary and expedient for development of a kid
intellect and logic thinking.
Or as logic board game for linguistic sports tournaments and competitions,
if rules are similar to a chess or checkers.
Or as lexical manual for language training in groups of dialogues in
educational centers and studying clubs of foreign languages, if those or
other rules allow to play words without complex mathematical movements of
alphabetic playing cards on squares of a chess board.
Or as objects of scientific researches in a context of mathematical linguistics
or philology if combinations of alphabetic cards reflect lexical rules of human
speech on chess squares.
This gaming design considerably differs from scrabble or erudite, and
consequently the offered linguistic board game can be taken as a developing toy
for lexical training with children, or as a logic chess system for sports
tournaments, or as a set of alphabetic signs for studying foreign languages and
scientific researches of mathematical linguistics of human speech.
The present word game allows participants to have playing cards with letters
on squares of a chess board and to manipulate alphabet signs as playing
figures or tiles as in a chess or checkers. Namely players or gamers can move or shift
cards with letters on
squares of a chess board, but formation of words is a rule of game interaction.
But also there are different variants of linguistic games and lexical puzzles in
which alphabetic playing cards differ from chessmen, and accordingly rules and
instructions differ from a chess or checkers.
Games and puzzles are given at numbers, and possible gaming variants are under asterisks.
Rules of word game 1st.
Two players or gamers use proportional groups of playing cards from structure of any
one complete set.
Preliminary playing cards are on the game board in initial positions as chessmen how
is shown in figure 1
if gamers use letters of the first complete set, or how is shown in figure 2 if
alphabetic signs of the second deck. Namely proportional groups of letters of
two players on 1-2 and 8-7 horizontals on opposite sides of the game board.
Gamers distinguish own playing cards by means of colors on front-face sheets,
and also by means of focusing arrows which direct on opponent.
Game rules consists that players by turns move letters on chess squares. In turn
each player can move any one own letter on any number of squares over verticals
or horizontals or diagonals, namely amplitudes of moving are similar to a chess queen.
Moving of letters probably only on free squares, namely playing cards are not imposed
on each other.
The task of game consists that each player need to move any
own letter outside opposite edge of the game board, that means a prize and
finishing of game.
Players form words during game and remove letters of opponent from the board.
Namely exclude other's playing cards if form a word which structure includes
letters of opponent.
Words can be located on verticals or horizontals or diagonals, but letters in
alphabetic combinations should be successive in a row, namely there should not
be intervals of free squares.
If letters of one player form a word then remain on the game board.
Structures of words should be not less than three letters, namely lexical
combinations of two alphabetic signs have no values.
• Distance of moving for one course can be one square over verticals or horizontals or diagonals. Namely moving amplitudes of letters can be similar to a chess king.
• Preliminary letters of two players can be shuffled and located in initial game positions in casual order.

Rules of word game 2nd.
Basic principle of this game is the same as previous, namely moving letters on squares of
a chess board.
Two gamers use proportional groups of playing cards from structure of any one
complete set which preliminary shuffle and display in casual order on 1-2 and
8-7 horizontals on opposite halves of the board according to own positions
having directions of focusing arrows on opponents, as well as in the previous game.
Before the beginning each gamer overturns back upwards playing cards which as a
result of casual preliminary position appeared on royal squares on which kings settle down in a chess game.
The turned playing cards are test, namely rules of game consists that any own letter
should be imposed on the test card of opponent.
Letters move only on free squares during game without imposing on each other,
but it is necessary to impose any letter on a test playing card, that means winning.
Distance of one move is one square over verticals or horizontals or diagonals as
kings in a chess game. Test playing cards can move the
same as others, but can not have part in words and are not imposed on other letters.
If alphabetic combinations are formed according to linguistic rules of gaming then
players remove letters of opponent from structures of words.
• In rules of this game it can be authorized to form two-letter words, as
against previous gaming variant in which alphabetic combinations of tow signs were not accepted in attention.
In different games it is possible to apply various rules of word-formation,
namely lexical combinations of alphabetic signs should be not less than three letters or two-letter words
too can be allowable, that depends on linguistic features of those or other gaming.
Words can be located on verticals or horizontals or diagonals, or any one
arrangement can be authorized on a chess board, but in any case between letters there should not be free
squares.
The direction of reading words can have or not have values. Namely according to
rules of different games it can be authorized to read words in any directions as
above in two gaming variants, or each player should read only from left to right.
• Distance of moving for letters in one course can be as at a chess queen.
In such gaming variant it is possible to not consider two-letter words.
Ways of moving of alphabetic signs on a chess board can be different, and also
rules of games can be
different, and there can be various linguistic conditions of word-formation.
The listed games are only examples of some methods according to which it is
possible to formulate rules of various playing interactions.
The following type of word games is based on shifting (rearrangement) of letters on squares of a chess board, that differs from moving. Namely it is possible to move letters only over verticals or horizontals or diagonals, and it is possible to shift on any squares.
Rules of word game 12th.
Any number of players or gamers participate in game.
Participants use playing cards of two complete sets which preliminary
shuffle and display casually and openly on 64 squares of the game board.
Each player can
choose any playing cards which are available on the game board for actions of turns.
Players remove the letter “Q” from the game board before the beginning. Then
players by turns shift letters on free squares which appear during gaming process.
Rearrangements of letters are probable only in the event that words will be formed.
When lexical combination of alphabetic signs according to linguistic rules is
formed then players take all letters of this word from the game board.
Quantities of taken letters determine sizes of a prize.
Game is finished when all players recognize that further forming of
words is impossible.
• Rules of this game variant can consist that each player in own turn must to
shift any letter and to form a word. Namely in this case if someone
can not execute a course then playing process is finished and this player loses.
Thus players remove letters of
words from the game board, but such playing cards have no value as that player
loses who can not execute a next tern.
The following type of word games differs that gamers put (lay) letters on squares of a chess board, namely the basic principle of rules consists that preliminarily alphabetic cards are outside of a playing space.
Rules of word game 25th.
Two gamers use two complete sets of playing cards which preliminary
shuffle and have in closed piles behind of the game board.
Everyone plays by own complete set, namely each player by turns open letters
from own closed pile and lay on any free squares.
It is impossible to lay letters above each other.
Rules of this game consists that each player should to arrange as
minimum 5 own playing cards in a line on verticals or horizontals or
diagonals without free squares between, that means a win.
Letters of playing cards can not form words, but if someone of gamers forms alphabetic
combinations then excludes letters of opponent of such words from gaming process.
If a word includes only own letters then remains on the game board. Or it is possible to apply a rule according to which
players can not to have own playing cards in a line if letters form a word.
• There can be a variant in which gamers can impose letters on each other at
formation of words.
Thus bottom playing cards in piles can be taken off from the game board together
with top letters if words are formed.
Or it can be authorized by gaming rules to remove only top letters of piles.
Rules of word puzzle 5th.
This puzzle or linguistic patience is based on moving playing cards with letters on squares of
a chess board.
Gamer preliminary shuffles one complete set of playing cards then displays
casually and openly on dark squares of the game board, and focuses arrows in
different directions on even and odd horizontals.
The puzzle consists that gamer moves playing cards as chess queens.
Moving is possible only on free squares. Formation of words at moving is
unessential.
The task of this puzzle consists that it is necessary to reorient arrows of all
playing cards in any one direction, namely if as a result of moving there are
vocabulary combinations of alphabetic signs then rules allow to reorient any letters. Namely
if a word is formed then gamer can reorient any component letters on 180 degrees on those squares on which
playing cards are.
If all letters on the game board are reoriented in any one direction then
this puzzle is considered as solved.
• This linguistic puzzle can be considered as a game, namely two players can
distinguish own playing cards by means of focusing arrows and can reorient letters
of opponent in words. If playing cards belong to gamers according to directions of focusing arrows.
If all letters on the game board are focused in any one direction then that gamer loses
who can not execute next turn.
The listed games are sufficient for understanding of linguistic principles
and rules of word forming games with letters on a chessboard.
In total rules of 33 linguistic games and 6 puzzles are described in the manual.
